Appliance Survey

We are going to be buying new washer, dryer, and refrigerator this week. I'm curious if any of you have clear preferences on top loading vs. front loading? Also, what about side by side vs. freezer on top or bottom of the refrigerator? If any of you have an opinion, I'd love to hear it...even you secret readers who never leave comments.

Please continue to pray that all goes smoothly through closing. Saturday at midnight is the end of our buyer's option time. We close on our house Monday morning and the new house Tuesday morning. We seriously appreciate all of your prayers about it.

I have a whole new respect for people who have to move around frequently. It is exciting, but it is wearing me out. I'm ok if we never have to move again!

I am happy for you that the house selling/buying seems to be working out after all. As to the appliances- no clue. We enjoy our side by side fridge, but there does not seem to be a whole lot of room in the freezer. However, we love the built in water/ ice dispenser in the door. As to washers and dryers- the front loading ones look cool. I have no idea how they really work though. Sorry, I know that's not much help.

I only have time to fool around with this question because I'm waiting for my dryer. Bryan and Karen got the crazy new washer and dryer that are HUGE, but are supposed to do everything--I think even coffee must come out somewhere :) On the fridge, freezer--check out usable space--it varies a lot, for both the fridge and freezer. There are some new models with much more usable space. That's an answer that's not an answer :)

As I mentioned the other night, we love our front loaders. They do practically everything - including having a delay start, so I can wake up to freshly washed clothes. We did notice our bills were lower too, since they wash more efficiently. We have a side by side, and I like them. They're better than the ones with the freezer on top. However, there isn't a whole lot of freezer space.

I like a side by side refrigerator/freezer better, because it's easier to get to things. I also REALLY love crushed ice in the door.

I HAVE a top loading washer, and like it fine. Something to check would be whether you can "cheat" and add items once the washer is running if you're thinking about a front loader. That would be a "deal-breaker" for me.

How EXCITING to be thinking about all new appliances in your all new (to you) house!

Hey Laura,

I have no opinion on washer/dryers, but I try to spend as little time in the laundry room as possible. I have a very casual relationship with my washer/dryer.
I do have to vote for side by side refrigerator/freezer. My fridge and I are BFFs. My brother and sister-in-law have the double door fridge with the drawer freezer underneath, and I hate it because I can't find anything in it. All of the food has to be stacked on top of each other. They also have to have a spare freezer to keep everything. Tyler and I have a side by side, and granted, it's massive, but we have tons of room in the freezer, and it can be organized easily. We've never run out of freezer room. We had a freezer on top refrigerator in Searcy, and things always fell out of it.
